Interviewing Children

The Interviewing Children video training resource is for learning and development of staff involved with children at risk.  It supports the CHCPROT531A:  Interview children for investigation of child protection concerns elective unit of competency of the CHC08 Community Services Training Package.

The video vignettes may be viewed online through the YouTube links below, and the accompanying documents may be downloaded here.

NOTE: This resource is to support the development of skills of new case workers with limited experience in interviewing and communicating with children. It does NOT focus on specialist forensic child interviewing.

NOTE: 

These video vignettes are not accompanied by explanations.

They are for use:

(a) in face-to-face training sessions where the trainer/facilitator provides the workplace-specific context for the vignettes

(b) to be embedded in an interactive CD-ROM or online resource where agency-specific context and explanations need to be provided in text or audio narrative.

Attempts have been made to have the interviewing techniques demonstrated in the video vignettes be as basic and generic as possible. However, they may not at all times be aligned with best practice and procedures which may vary from one agency/jurisdiction to another. This allows for valuable learning generated by discussion, evaluation of demonstrated techniques  and identification of agency-specific techniques
